Meet our owner… Emma Logan
Eyes of Swavesey was first launched in 1994, by Dr Larry Amure. Having been a locum at Eyes since 2007, Emma took over as sole director in 2015 and has been developing the practice and looking after patients ever since.
What’s your experience to date?
I moved from Northern Ireland to study Optometry at Bradford University in 1997. After graduation my first job was in Ely, where I worked in an independent practice for seven years. I then did a year of domiciliary work, visiting nursing homes and testing eyes in people’s own homes. In 2006, I became a locum, working between practices in Royston, Swavesey and Huntingdon. I also worked in Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon with the diabetic retinopathy screening team, before taking over Eyes in 2015.
What does your job entail?
As an optometrist, I examine, diagnose and manage conditions relating to the eyes and vision. I play an essential role in maintaining eye health and helping patients achieve clear, comfortable vision. Optometrists write prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses tailored to each patient’s needs. Beyond vision correction, routine eye exams can sometimes reveal signs of systemic health problems, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, allowing patients to seek appropriate medical treatment. Overall, my role as an optometrist is both medically important and personally rewarding. By helping individuals maintain healthy eyes and clear vision, as an optometrist I feel I make a difference to my patients’ overall quality of life.
What are the current trends/innovations in eyecare?
Optometry has evolved rapidly in recent years due to technological advancements, digital health integration and improved diagnostic tools, such as the OCT. These innovations have enhanced the accuracy of eye examinations, improved patient comfort and expanded the scope of care that optometrists can provide. As a result, modern optometry is more efficient, precise and patient-centred than ever before.
Why use an independent optician?
As independent opticians we focus on a personalised service, high-quality products and long term-patient relationships, rather than high-volume sales.
What are your top tips for eye health?
Eat a balanced and healthy diet. Protect your eyes from UV by wearing sunglasses all year round! Follow the 20-20-20 rule on screens, in order to reduce digital fatigue and dry eyes. Practise good hygiene, washing your hands before touching your eyes, especially if you wear contact lenses. Avoid smoking and have regular eye exams, at least once every two years.
How do you spend your time away from work?
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two young and very energetic boys who love to play sports, especially football. So I tend to spend my weekends watching them play. I enjoy keeping fit, walking, playing golf and taking classes at the gym. I also love to travel and spend my holidays in the sunshine.

This is a fantastic independent opticians. Nothing is too much trouble for them. You are always warmly welcomed and never rushed. My eyesight is complex and Emma and Charlotte have worked so hard to maximise the sight and find the best glasses. I particularly like the continuity of an independent optician, the staff know you and you don't have to explain everything to a stranger on each visit. My lenses have been complex and expensive but Charlotte tries to keep the cost as low as possible when dispensing. I highly recommend this opticians.
Highly recommend Eyes of Swavesey - they really know what they’re doing. When they found my husband had a serious problem with his eye during a routine checkup, they immediately referred him to Addenbrooke’s for treatment - they take eye health very seriously and have all the technology needed to do the full range of tests, An excellent personal service, and lovely friendly staff who take their time to talk about options and help find the perfect frames from a huge range. Great location just off the A14 - I’d never go anywhere else
Always awesome with the whole families eye tests, but especially for our 6 and 8 year old who have been coming to the team for around 18months for their glasses. Beautiful frames and excellent service!!! Nothing is ever too much trouble. We love our trips to you!!
