Contact Lenses

Being an independent optician, we have the freedom to supply you with the full range of contact lenses available from all suppliers so that we can always select the right lenses for you.  We carry out a full contact lens evaluation, to discuss the various types of lenses available and establish the best option for you to trial.

Contact lenses can be worn full-time or occasionally. They are great for sports, nights out and special occasions or for when you just want a change from glasses.  They are available in soft or gas permeable materials.

DID YOU KNOW?

We fit all makes and types of lenses including:

  • Daily disposable lenses
  • Two weekly and monthly lenses
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism
  • Varifocal lenses
  • Varifocals (multifocals) for astigmatism.
  • RGP lenses
  • Coloured contact lenses

Daily Disposables

These are soft contact lenses that you wear once then throw away.  You can wear them every day or occasionally. No cleaning or solutions are required and every lens is sealed in an airtight pack. Due to their high levels of comfort for all day wear, and the risk of eye infection being so low as you wear a brand new lens every day, they are now becoming the most popular contact lens modality to wear.

Available for:
Short sight, Far sight, Astigmatism, Presbyopia (Varifocal)

Two-weekly and Monthly Disposables

Two-weekly and monthly disposables are great for more frequent soft contact lens wear. Reusable lenses have been around for many years and come in a wider range of prescriptions, sizes and materials.  The wide range of reusable lenses means that they can be better for people with more complex prescriptions (which may not be available in a daily disposable). They are designed to be worn for 14 or 30 days then thrown away.  You would wear the lens for the day then remove before bed time.  They do require cleaning and storing in a contact lens case with contact lens solution (as advised by your optician).

Available for:
Short sight, Far sight, Astigmatism, Presbyopia (Varifocal).

Toric Lenses

This is the lens of choice if you have astigmatism.  These specialised lenses allow better accuracy at correcting the distortion that’s seen at all distances with an astigmatic eye.  Toric lenses are available as daily, two-weekly, monthly disposable, soft and RGP.

Available for:
Short sight, Far sight, Astigmatism, Presbyopia (Varifocal).

Varifocal (Multifocal) Lenses

These lenses are selected when a distance and near vision correction is required simultaneously, usually around the age of 45-50. These varifocal contact lens options provide a stronger prescription for near, allowing you to read more comfortably without glasses, whilst maintaining great distance vision at the same time.

They are available as daily, two-weekly, monthly disposable, soft and RGP.

Gas Permeable Lenses (RGP)

These are hard lenses used for correcting high prescriptions and astigmatism.  Rigid gas permeable lenses are replaced every 6 or 12 months. Cleaning and storing with RGP solution is required (as advised by your optometrist)

Coloured Contact Lenses

Available in daily and monthly disposable, although prescription range is more limited.

We want you to love your contact lenses, which is why we will take the time to select the right lens for you.  Most types of contact lenses can be trialled until you are completely happy.  We offer a full aftercare service including the teaching of insertion and removal of lenses together with the best way to care for them. We will offer regular checks to ensure your eyes remain healthy, your vision is clear and the lenses are comfortable to wear.

Please give us a call to arrange an appointment for a contact lens trial (recent sight test is required).

The College of Optometrists recommends “It is important that you have regular contact lens check-ups to detect early signs of possible complications associated with wearing contact lenses.”
